Expecting anything other than what will make them more money is a fool's errand. They exist for the purpose of making money.
Game companies are, first and foremost, businesses. That's basically how I read most of these. They should appeal to only a very small fanbase and make less money on purpose." "Bethesda shouldn't try to make money like every other business by appealing to a broader audience.

Still a fantastic game, just not the ES i would want to play in my free time. honestly, not surprised, especially after the most badass marketing and trailer i have seen for Skyrim came out. But since people care more about graphics, ease of play, and "muh modz" which oblivion has BILLIONS for on PC. Can you please retrieve it? I'll give you Z".īasically, if people took the time to learn the HUD, mechanics, and story, then Oblivion would beat out Skyrim. I would get it back, but there's tons of Y. if people were to fully play Skyrim vs Oblivion, i would guess that most would choose oblivion because of the sheer number of activities and quests compared to Skyrim's "I lost my X in this cave. now that they streamlined everything, more and more people could get into it without being confused. it was god damn HARD to do - pre Cataclysm. after, people started to get hyped for skyrim BECAUSE they played oblivion on their home console. if Oblivion got the reboot, it would have been way bigger than skyrim because before oblivion, no one knew. there were no REAL changes to the ES franchise, save for a couple of quality of life changes. skyrim looked pretty and had more than 2 people doing VA. i'm not saying skyrim is a bad game by any means, i personally loved the - out of that game, but if i'm comparing it to oblivion, then skyrim has no chance. remember Shivering Isles? that's what skyrim should have aimed for in DLC. skyrim got boring after you beat the game.
oblivion is my favorite ES game and honestly, way better than skyrim in terms of story and immersion. People like skyrim because it pandered to the majority. Those of us who loved Oblivion would buy it, and probably some of the Skyrim fans who held off because it's "dated", but that's really a niche. There's no way a remake of Oblivion would sell as well as a new TES game, or probably even SSE. I honestly wish they remade an older game instead, but that would simply be more trouble than it's really worth in Bethesdas eyes, at least. every single script would have to be rewritten. Even if we assume that all art assets, menus, and enemies can be imported flawlessly which is a big "if", in reality you would probably have much problems here too. Skyrim uses something called Papyrus, while Oblivion used "TES Script". The scripting language has literally changed. There is just so much that doesn't work the same anymore.

Skyrim to the newest version of the engine is "just" porting it over, making some tweaks, and creating a central mod base for consoles. It's that it runs on a much older version of the Engine. It's not that it can't run on modern machines.
